Future of Dal's Campuses

Active Projects

The Oulton-Stanish Centre will be a space that brings people together from the HÂþ» campus and beyond. This stunning facility is thoughtfully designed to serve the varied needs of our diverse campus and the local communities. The facility will include a sports arena, event space, and the HÂþ» Physiotherapy Clinic.

A $38.5-million expansion to the HÂþ» Arts Centre is being built to accommodate the new scope of the Fountain School of Performing Arts. The addition includes a new concert hall and practice rooms, and will allow Dal’s Costume Studies program — currently housed in rented space at the corner of Coburg and Oxford streets — to be fully integrated with the other programs in the Fountain School.

HÂþ»â€™s 40-year old heating plant is at capacity. The university must replace existing equipment or invest in a new system capable of generating enough heating and cooling to meet the demands of a growing campus.

HÂþ»'s campus master plan (2010) calls for the 60,000 square-foot area at the top of University Avenue, adjacent to the Killam Library, to be re-designed into a vibrant and diverse outdoor public space. At the time of adopting the campus master plan, this space was only known as the Lower Quad. Today, the plan intends to link the space with HÂþ»'s history - and is now known as the Bicentennial Common.

The Killam Memorial Library is undergoing energy and water retrofits, as well as some infrastructure renewal to improve sustainability and building performance.

The Beaty Centre for Marine Biodiversity, set to open at HÂþ» University in 2025, is a first-of-its-kind interactive ocean and science discovery centre that will offer exceptional educational and research experiences for both the HÂþ» community and beyond. Local students, Nova Scotia visitors and curious members of the public will be welcomed into the Beaty Centre to learn all about the innovative work being done by the Dal researchers dedicated to protecting our vital ocean resources.
