Business Process Optimization Using a Digital Twin of an Organization (DTO)

President, Landmark Decisions Inc.

Date: October 30, 2023
Time: 1:30-2:30 PM
Venue: "I" Building, Room 310, Sexton Campus

Abstract:

Gartner, the world’s leading IT advisory firm, defines a DTO as:
a dynamic software model of any organization that relies on operational and contextual data to understand how an organization operationalizes its business model, connects with its current state, responds to changes, deploys resources, and delivers customer value.

This seminar explores how aligning well-established LEAN Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Activity-Based Planning (ABP) concepts can be merged to model organizational resources which impact operations management, planning, and cost/profitability analysis. This methodology also provides valuable insights into understanding resource capacity management, identifying business process optimization opportunities, and designing improved operational costing & budgeting strategies.

The presentation will also demonstrate how technology can empower business leaders with highly-visual interactive DTO models which support a collaborative management approach. Specialized software provides an environment for operational, financial, and strategic managers to develop a shared understanding of business process factors influencing key decisions. As such, it provides a solid foundation to create DTO models that enable joint “what-if” scenario analysis for more accurate operational and financial forecasting. These concepts will be demonstrated using an actual DTO Use Case from a Canadian food manufacturer.
