MA Thesis: Jonny Greenwood Scores the Western: Music as Generic Subversion in "There Will Be Blood." HÂþ» University, 2017.
Why Dal?
HÂþ» was an easy choice for me. At the Fountain School of Performing Arts, you’re in a sort of creative hub not only of the university, but the city as well. Being located in the same building as the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium, you’re literally next to most of the big acts that come through the city, so finding concerts to attend is never a problem. The university is also small enough that I have been able to establish meaningful relationships with faculty and colleagues, but big enough to provide all of the same opportunities and experiences of a larger university. Having the chance to bounce ideas off of a variety of incredibly experienced faculty is valuable as an academic studying music and film, and the advice and guidance they provide is invaluable. I feel incredibly privileged to have been involved in such a close-knit and compassionate community.
What Inspires Me?
I am most often inspired by the achievements and goals of the people around me. Having friends and colleagues who are enthusiastic about their work and are continually involved in shaping the music scene in Halifax both humbles me and drives me to do more creatively. Halifax has no shortage of incredible musicians; the musical community has been incredibly welcoming and supportive, and I have had many opportunities to pursue multiple facets of the music industry besides academics.
