Putting an end to the use of child soldiers

There are more than 250,000 child soldiers forced into armed conflicts around the world.

For decades, the global reaction to this disturbing phenomenon has been largely reactive, as the international community struggled to find solutions to this complex issue. The result: year after year, there has been no real reduction in the number of child soldiers.

We believe the answer is prevention. To achieve this, we work collaboratively with nation-states, organizations, communities, and the humanitarian, academic and security sectors.

Your contribution to the Child Soldiers Initiative will go towards:

  • Ground-breaking research. World-class interdisciplinary research that will build and share knowledge to uncover new solutions.
  • Advocacy. Develop partnerships to help change policies and build the political will to end the use and recruitment of child soldiers.
  • Security-sector training. Provide comprehensive training to military, police, peacekeeping and other security forces – often the first point of contact for child soldiers – to help prevent the recruitment of children by armed groups.
