Honours in French
BA with Concentrated Honours in French (120 credit hour)
This program offers systematic, comprehensive and individualized study of French language, literature, linguistics and other program elements both within and without the classroom. It is, therefore, an option which should be considered seriously by any student who, with career or personal objectives in mind, wishes to obtain a strong background in French and by those who plan to teach or earn a graduate degree in French.
Honours requirements:
Students must meet the Faculty requirements for an Honours degree, which include 54 to 66 credit hours (9-11 full credits) in French above the 1000 level. Departmental requirements are:
- 2000-level: FR2045.06 or FREN2047.03/FREN2048.03, FR2201.03, FR2202.03, FR2020.03
- 3000-level: FR3021.03 (or 3022.03), FR3045.06 or FREN3047.03/FREN3048.03, plus 6 credit hours at the 3000-level in French literature and/or culture
- 4000-level: FR4046.03, FR4017.03, plus 12 credit hours of 4000-level French
- PLUS at least 6 credit hours of 2000-4000 level French, for a total of at least 54 credit hours in French
- An additional grade is required: Honours Essay
- A grade of B- or better is required in the Honours subject
Classes other than those required may be chosen freely in consultation with the Undergraduate Advisor, according to the students' desire to obtain a general knowledge of the field, or a greater concentration in specific areas such as Literature, Linguistics, French-Canadian Studies, etc.
BA or BSc with Combined Honours in French (120 credit hour)
BA Combined Honours requirements:
Students must meet the Faculty requirements for a Combined Honours degree which include a combined minimum of 66 to 84 credit hours (11-14 full credits) above the 1000 level.
Among these credits, students must take 30-48 credit hours (5-8 credits) in French above the 1000 level, includiing:
- 2000-level: FR2045.06 or FREN2047.03/FREN2048.03, FR2201.03, FR2202.03
- 3000-level: French 3045.06 or FREN3047.03/FREN3048.03, plus 6 credit hours of 3000-level French literature and/or culture
- 4000-level: FR4046.03 and FR4017.03
- When French is the primary subject, an additional grade is required: Honours Essay
- An additional grade is required: Honours Essay
- A grade of B- or better is required in the Honours subject
BSc Combined Honours requirements:
Students must meet the Faculty requirements for a Combined Honours degree which include a combined minimum of 66 to 84 credit hours (11-14 full credits) above the 1000 level.
Among these credits, students must take 30-54 credit hours (5-9 credits) in French above the 1000 level, includiing:
- 2000-level: FR2045.06 or FREN2047.03/FREN2048.03, FR2201.03, FR2202.03
- 3000-level: French 3045.06 or FREN3047.03/FREN3048.03, plus 6 credit hours of 3000-level French literature and/or culture
- 4000-level: FR4046.03 and FR4017.03
- Plus, when French is the primary subject an additional grade is required: Honours Essay
- A grade of B- or better is required in the Honours subjects
Classes other than those required may be chosen freely in consultation with the Undergraduate Advisor, according to the students' desire to obtain a general knowledge of the field, or a greater concentration in specific areas such as Literature, Linguistics, French-Canadian Studies, etc.

Major in French
BA with Major in French (120 credit hour)
BA Major in French requirements:
Students who wish to have a strong undergraduate background in French, but who do not intend to do graduate work in French, are encouraged to complete the BA with Major in French 120-credit degree program.
Students must meet the Faculty requirements for a BA degree, which include 42 to 54 credit hours (7-9 full credits) in French above the 1000 level. Departmental requirements are:
- 2000-level: FR2045.06 or FREN2047.03/FREN2048.03, FR2201.03, FR2202.03
- 3000-level: FR3045.06 or FREN3047.03/FREN3048.03 plus 12 credit hours of 3000-level French
- 4000-level: FR4046.03, FR4017.03, plus 6 credit hours of 4000-level French
Classes other than those required may be chosen freely in consultation with the Undergraduate Advisor, according to the students' desire to obtain a general knowledge of the field, or a greater concentration in specific areas such as Literature, Linguistics, French-Canadian Studies, etc.
Students wanting to change to an Honours program may do so, if the quality of their work justifies it. Those who are considering this should also take FR2020.03 and 3021.03 (or 3022.03) which are required for Honours and consult the Undergraduate Advisor.
BA or BSc with Double Major in French (120 credit hour)
BA double Major requirements:
Students must meet the Faculty requirements for a BA double Major degree which include a combined minimum of 60 to 84 credit hours (10-14 full credits) above the 1000 level.
Among these credits, students must take 30-48 credit hours (5-8 credits) in French above the 1000 level, includiing:
- 2000-level: FR2045.06 or FREN2047.03/FREN2048.03, FR2201.03, FR2202.03
- 3000-level: FR3045.06 or FREN3047.03/FREN3048.03, plus 6 credit hours of 3000-level French
- plus 6 additional credit hours at the 3000-4000 level in French
BSc double Major requirements:
Students must meet the Faculty requirements for a BSc double Major degree which include a combined minimum of 60 to 84 credit hours (10-14 full credits) above the 1000 level.
Among these credits, students must take 30-48 credit hours (5-8 credits) in French above the 1000 level, includiing:
- 2000-level: FR2045.06 or FREN2047.03/FREN2048.03, FR2201.03, FR2202.03
- 3000-level: FR3045.06 or FREN3047.03/FREN3048.03, plus 6 credit hours of 3000-level French
- plus 6 additional credit hours at the 3000-4000 level in French

BA Concentration with Minor in French (90 credit hour)
BA with Minor in French requirements:
Students must meet the Faculty requirements for a BA Minor in French, which include 18 to 27 credit hours (3-4.5 full credits) in French above the 1000 level. Departmental requirements are:
- 2000-level: FR2045.06 or FREN2047.03/FREN2048.03
- 6 credit hours at the 2000-level or above
- 6 credit hours at the 3000-level or above
BSc with Minor in French requirements:
Students must meet the Faculty requirements for a BSc Minor in French, which include 18 to 36 credit hours (3-6 full credits) in French above the 1000 level. Departmental requirements are:
- 2000-level: FR2045.06 or FREN2047.03/FREN2048.03
- 6 credit hours at the 2000-level or above
- 6 credit hours at the 3000-level or above
Note: courses given in English and FREN2005 X/Y.06 are not admissible. The Minor in French cannot be combined with a Major in French.
Classes other than those required may be chosen freely in consultation with the Undergraduate Advisor, according to the students' desire to obtain a general knowledge of the field, or a greater concentration in specific areas such as Literature, Linguistics, etc. Students considering a Major or Honours in French shoujld choose their courses in consultation with our Undergraduate Advisor.

Minor in French
BA with Minor in French requirements:
A Minor in French allows for a level of specialization in French in addition to your major degree program(s).
Students must meet the Faculty requirements for a BA Minor in French, which include 18 to 27 credit hours (3-4.5 full credits) in French above the 1000 level. Departmental requirements are:
- 2000-level: FR2045.06 or FREN2047.03/FREN2048.03
- 6 credit hours at the 2000-level or above
- 6 credit hours at the 3000-level or above
BSc with Minor in French requirements:
Students must meet the Faculty requirements for a BSc Minor in French, which include 18 to 36 credit hours (3-6 full credits) in French above the 1000 level. Departmental requirements are:
- 2000-level: FR2045.06 or FREN2047.03/FREN2048.03
- 6 credit hours at the 2000-level or above
- 6 credit hours at the 3000-level or above
Note: courses given in English and FREN2005 X/Y.06 are not admissible. The Minor in French cannot be combined with a Major in French.

A minimum of 18 and a maximum of 27 credit hours beyond the 1000-level, including:
