October was Cyber Security Awareness Month, and HÂþ» University's Information Security Office took the opportunity to educate the campus community on the importance of information security.
During the month-long initiative, the Information Security Office team provided a variety of educational resources and hosted engaging events to help students, faculty, and staff stay informed about the latest cyber threats and best practices for protecting sensitive information.
Cybersecurity Articles
This year's Cyber Month theme, Generation Cyber Safe: Because online security knows no age, emphasized the importance of digital safety for all. A series of articles delved into topics such as:
- : The importance of strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, and protecting personal information online.
- The significance of online safety tools like antivirus software, system updates, and VPNs.
- The risks of phishing, social media safety, social engineering, identity theft, and AI-generated content.
- The need for vigilance, awareness, and proactive measures in our digital lives.
Cyber Talk
On October 22, 2024, Abdulazeez Pedro, Information Security Officer, Planning & Consulting, and Justin Miles, Information Security Officer, Threat Management, joined CKDU 88.1 FM for a Cyber Talk. The duo provided valuable insights into online security, emphasizing the importance of strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, and steps to take in case of a social media account compromise.
Tales from the Trenches
On November 5, 2024, Justin Miles shared real-world cybersecurity experiences with 25 students in the Introduction to Information Security class. Miles offered valuable insights into the evolving threat landscape and the challenges faced by security professionals.
Dal Cyber Awareness Day
The Information Security Office team wrapped up Cyber Security Awareness Month with Dal Cyber Awareness Day on November 6, 2024, at the Student Union Building entrance. Over 150 students participated in engaging activities, including a cybersecurity trivia quiz and a password strength tester, and learned about best practices to protect themselves online.
The celebrations of Cyber Month raised awareness about cybersecurity threats and empowered students, faculty, and staff to protect themselves online. We're proud of the team's efforts to promote a safer digital community.
