New Window Operation

Marion McCain Window Operating Instructions:

  1. Unlock window by lifting the levers up on both sides of the window.
  2. Open the window by pulling the crank out to its outermost position until it clicks. Then  turn the crank counterclockwise while keeping a constant pull toward yourself until window is at its desired openness. Collapse the crank for storage horizontally.
  3. Close the window by pulling the crank out to its outermost position and turn the crank clockwise while keeping a constant pull toward yourself until closed. Collapse the crank for storage.
  4. Lock the window by pushing down the levers on both sides of the window.

Note:

The operation of the windows will be stiff until the window gets broken-in. Open and close your window regularly to mitigate this.

Vision

Between May 2024 and September 2025 the exterior, roof and windows of the Marion McCain Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Building are being renewed,

Most construction activities will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

To accommodate this renewal project, a number of trees had to be removed. As stated in  HÂþ»â€™s Sustainability Policy and Natural Environment Plan(Natural Environment Plan 2022 (dal.ca)), a tree replacement guideline has been established. If a tree is taken down for campus infrastructure projects, the equivalent biomass is replaced. Since the tree replacement guideline was established in 2012, 215 trees were removed related to construction equalling 4,656 cm of biomass and 736 trees were added: (3,841 cm of biomass.)  In this case the trees around McCain will be replaced on both the Halifax and Agricultural Campuses (due to space limitations in Halifax.) Departments and faculties use the campus grounds as places for learning, teaching, research and hands-on projects and education events. HÂþ» received the appropriate permits from HRM before undertaking this work.
