Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: The Imperative and the Challenge

Though there is increasing evidence that diverse teams are more effective than those that are not, it is still true that it is easier for homogeneous groups to work together. By exploring the history and origins of racism in North America and its effects this session will deepen our understanding of the imperative of EDI work and its challenges.

Robert Seymour Wright is a Social Worker and Sociologist whose 31 year career has spanned the fields of education, child welfare, forensic mental health, trauma, sexual violence, and cultural competence.

Breakout Workshops (concurrent)

Workshops will run concurrently. Participants can only register for one workshop, however both sessions will be recorded and available to watch at a later date.

Workshop 1: Intercultural Development Inventory Assessment & EDI in the Workplace

Cynthia Murphy (Director, International Engagement) and Kewoba Carter (Residence Life Manager) will lead a workshop on the importance of promoting and instilling equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. They will present on the value of the Intercultural Development Inventory assessment, and, through engaging activities, demonstrate how developing one’s intercultural competence and awareness can play a huge factor in EDI development and intercultural communication.

Workshop 2: SimplyCast and Microsoft Teams Live - what else can they do?

Interactive demonstration on two virtual technology tools – SimplyCast and Microsoft Teams Live/Panopto. The SimplyCast Canada team will facilitate a session on the abilities of SimplyCast (it’s more than just a tool to send mass emails!) and Dal ATS's James Wilson and Michelle McDonald will provide a helpful session on how to operate and optimize Microsoft Teams Live and Panopto for your events and meetings.
