Your DalCard is your official identification card, building access card, library card, gym pass, meal card, and debit card all rolled into one. Add money to it online and use it to purchase items at locations across campus and selected off-campus vendors. Bookstore and food vendor purchases also earn 5% cash back.
If you’re a full-time student you’ll receive a UPass, a sticker on your DalCard that lets you ride the Halifax Transit buses and ferries during the academic year (including three routes that run straight through our three Halifax campuses).
Every student is unique, and so are your financial circumstances. Dal's Student Awards and Financial Aid team can help you explore financial options and develop strategies to create a plan that works for you. Each year, millions of dollars in scholarships, awards, bursaries and prizes are distributed through the Registrar's Office to promising HÂþ» students.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit. In some cases, selection criteria may also include community involvement, leadership and/or financial need.
HÂþ»â€™s bursary programs provide funds to assist students in financial need. Bursaries are typically smaller amounts of money, intended to supplement other funding sources. Bursaries won't make up a major part of your funding, but they can fill in the gaps.
There are various types of student loans available through federal, provincial and territorial governments as well as private institutions such as banks, trust companies and credit unions.
Understanding your finances and developing a budget is an important life skill that will set you up for success through the course of your degree and beyond. The Money Matters website provides important information about tuition and student fees, as well as potential sources of funding and strategies for managing your money and living affordably.
