Much has been written about the linkages between climate change and security/conflict on land. There has not been as much discussion of the implications on water. What does climate change mean for Canadian maritime security? Navies will increasingly be tasked to deliver humanitarian assistance/disaster relief in the wake of natural disasters sparked by climate change. They may also be called on more frequently to deal with the disorder on land that spreads on to the world’s oceans threatening the safety and security of global commerce. Given the effects of climate change on the oceans, how can the Canadian Navy prepare for its increasing role to address the fallout?
