Warmer weather means more time outside. It also means ticks are more active.​​​​​​​ Nova Scotia has 14 different species of ticks, although only a few species carry the necessary bacteria and viruses that cause tick-borne illnesses such as Lyme disease. The most notable is the blacklegged tick, often called the deer tick.

To help everyone be more tick-aware, HÂþ»­â€™s has produced a short video aimed at providing you the knowledge to limit your risk of tick bites and tick-borne illnesses.. This short video will give you tips on:

• Where ticks are likely to be, and how to avoid those areas. 

• How to dress to avoid getting ticks on your skin.

• How to safely remove a tick.

• How to safely dispose of a tick.

For those looking to post information on items such as office bulletin boards, a one-page document has also been produced.
