Position: Teaching Assistants for ENVS 2500: Field Methods in Environmental Science Summer Term 2022 (course occurs May 4 – May 13)

Rate of Pay: According to the CUPE Collective Agreement

Job Description:

ENVS 2500 is a summer term intensive field course scheduled at 9:00-17:00 from May 4 – 13, 2022. The course is a combination of field and lab instruction with students visiting field sites on campus and around Halifax.

The course content includes the following topics: Ìý
1) wildlife sampling including visual and auditory identification of eastern Canadian avian, amphibian, and reptile species

2) soil sampling and composition analysis with a potential for water sampling
3) urban trees, tree diseases, and invasive pests and plants
Ìý
TA responsibilities:
Managing student groups during field trips
Providing on site instruction and guidanceÌý
Marking assignments, tests, and quizzes
Responding to student queries
Ìý
TAs will also meet with the course instructor as needed to prepare for course activities. The position requires availability during scheduled field/lab sessions and may include before hours set-up and after-hours clean-up.

Ìý
Requirements: The Teaching Assistant must be a senior undergraduate or graduate student at HÂþ»­ University. The following skills are required for the position: 1) effective communication; 2) ability to lead and engage students in field settings; and 3) assessment grading including provision of constructive feedback. Although not required, experience with one or more of the three course topics listed above is a definite asset.
