POSITION: Teaching Assistants, SCIE 1111.03 WINTER TERM, 2020 (up to 5 x 65 hour assignments)

JOB SUMMARY: SCIE 1111, Writing for the Sciences, is a Writing Requirement course in the Faculty of Science. Duties of the Teaching Assistants include: (1) prepare and run two 50-minute tutorials (5 students per tutorial) per week for 11 weeks, (2) grade four assignments and four tests (approximately 10 each time), (3) attend weekly tutorial/marking prep class (Fridays, 8:30-9:30 a.m.), and (4) attend some SCIE 1111 classes over the term (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, 10:30-11:30 a.m.). Material in this class covers: Communication, scientific style, grammar and punctuation, sentences and paragraphs, APA and CSE referencing, graphics, the scientific paper (Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, and Abstract), and ethics.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Applicants should be undergraduate or graduate students with excellent writing skills. Background in science is desirable, as is experience with SCIE 1111.
