INSTRUCTOR or SENIOR INSTRUCTOR
FULL-TIME CAREER STREAM Appointment

Applications are invited for a full-time Instructor or Senior Instructor position in the Department of Biology at HÂþ» University. This appointment will be a Career Stream appointment beginning July 1, 2018.
1) The Instructor will be responsible for the laboratory component of BIOL 3050.03: Developmental Biology. The position involves development and coordination of the laboratory activities; hiring and supervising teaching assistants; managing tests, exams, course grades and the course website; communication with students and with other teaching faculty; and other course-related duties as required.

2) The Instructor will also be responsible for the lectures in BIOL 3079/MARI 3076: Animal Physiology II, and BIOL 3326: Vertebrate Design and Evolution, which includes preparing and delivering all lectures to the class; communicating with and meeting with students to discuss lecture and exam content; preparing any assignments and exams; and other duties related to the course.

3) As well, the Instructor will be responsible for the Animal Biology unit lecture component of BIOL 1011.03: Principles of Biology II, which includes preparing and delivering seven lectures to two sections of the course; communicating with and meeting with students to discuss lecture and exam content; preparing the Animal Biology portion of the final exam; and other duties related to this unit of the course.

4) The Instructor will also co-teach a SEASIDE course, either MARI 3682: Tropical Marine Biology or BIOL/MARI 3626: Field Studies of Marine Mammals when enrollment is sufficient.

5) The Instructor will also act as an advisor to undergraduate students, serve on departmental committees, and undertake professional development activities.
Ìý
Candidates should have an advanced degree in Biology (preferably a PhD in related discipline) and previous teaching experience in developmental biology, physiology and marine biology. Candidates must have demonstrated strong teaching ability, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well as part of a team.
Salary will be according to qualifications and experience, as determined by the Collective Agreement between the Board of Governors of HÂþ» University and the HÂþ» Faculty Association. The position involves development and coordination of the laboratory and tutorial activities; hiring and supervising teaching assistants; managing tests, exams, course grades and the course website; communication with students and with other teaching faculty; and other course-related duties as required.

2) The Instructor will also act as an advisor to undergraduate students, act as the Genetics Certificate coordinator for the Biology Department, serve on departmental committees, and undertake professional development activities.

Candidates must have an advanced degree in biology, and previous teaching experience in the design and coordination of genetics laboratories, genetics tutorials, scientific writing and working knowledge of Brightspace. Previous experience developing course-based undergraduate research, successful grant writing for lab development and lecturing to large undergraduate classes would be an asset. Candidates must have demonstrated strong teaching ability, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well as part of a team.
