As a complement to the email and calendar service Office 365, ITS introduces a new HÂþ» File Share service for employees. Sign up by emailing a request to support@dal.ca and ask for a File Share account. (
The new service is based on software called . The HÂþ» File Share service is hosted locally, on HÂþ» servers, and is intended to serve as a means through which sensitive, confidential and private information is shared and conveyed through the course of university work. Documents conveyed through this service reside on ITS servers for 30 days, after which they are deleted.
When to use email, when to use File Share ()
- Use email for routine communications.
- Use HÂþ» File Share for the documents and information that are sensitive enough that they should not be conveyed in email.
Note: File Share will be replacing Filedrop, which university employees have been using the past several years. The new service has features and security controls.
Service Enhancements for File Share
- Increased upload file size from the current 2 GB to 5 GB.
- Share information with individuals or teams, access to most current documents
- Email notifications when sharing.
- Document thumbnails to help recognize and find information quicker.
- Better security through encryption, logging and enterprise support.
- Documents will be automatically removed from the service after 30 days. (not intended as a document storage service)
Sign up!
- In order to use the new email support@dal.ca from your university email and ask for a File Share account. You will shortly receive a notice to log into using your netID@dal.ca and password.
What is changing?
- The current FileDrop.dal.ca will be phased out in the coming months.
- Students may use OneDrive through Office 365 or any of their other preferred tools.
- Employees dealing with sensitive information are encouraged to sign up for the new HÂþ» File Share by emailing support@dal.ca from your HÂþ» email.
