Joy Galloway-Jones believes in paying it forward. Thanks to those who have inspired and supported her, numerous community groups now benefit from Joy’s time and talent, including the Truro Fire Brigade, St John’s Ambulance and local high school athletics. None more so, however, than the Faculty’s Varsity Cross Country Running Team.
“I love coaching the team. The student athletes are amazing and so much fun to work with. Their determination and commitment is incredible.” The athletes would say the same thing about Joy. Joy gives up every evening of her week during the two month season to work with the team. Over their three years together, Joy and the runners have built a core program that just keeps getting better and better.
Joy is passionate about her team and it shows. She was awarded the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year Award in 2011, voted on by all coaches in the league. The Men’s team won the ACAA championship in 2012 and both the Men and Women took second place this past fall, with one runner going on to place 9th individually at Nationals.
