Office 365 project update

Posted by Information Technology Services on September 6, 2013 in General Announcements

It's been a busy summer for our Information Technology Services team as we work hard to support the migration of all HÂþ» email accounts over to Office 365. As we start the fall term, here's a status update on the project:

Email migration

With the successful completion of our student migration in the past couple of weeks, our total count now sits at more than 27,000 email accounts migrated to Office 365.
Ìý
We're excited that people seem to be pleased with the increased storage, better webmail and stronger mobile integration of their email. As for issues, our support team has been working to address these as they arise. There have been sporadic issues linking Office 365 email to older Blackberrys; our team has been supporting individuals as needed with these concerns. The vast majority of issues that have come to our support team involve outdated software, either on the desktop (older versions of Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.) or in the web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, etc.). If you are encountering any unexpected issues with Office 365, make sure the software you're using is up-to-date.
Ìý
If you have questions or come across issues, you can email our team at support@dal.ca, or check to see if your question has been answered our our community help website, , by using the site's search box. If you're in Outlook's web client (or Outlook on your desktop for Windows), you can also click the question mark in the upper-right corner for Microsoft's own support. (And if you haven't tried out using - you might end up preferring to access your mail via the web rather than on your computer.)

Upcoming migrations

Now that student migrations have been completed, we'll next be focused on migrating all remaining faculty/staff to Office 365 email.

If you're curious when your migration will be, . You'll receive three advance notifications by email prior to your migration date. For a look at what you can expect on your migration day, .

Meeting Maker migration and new Outlook calendar

We successfully migrated Meeting Maker data into Office 365 between August 15-18 and allowed Dal staff and faculty to make use of their new Outlook calendar.
Ìý
We recognize that any new tool such as a calendar comes with a learning curve, and our support team has been working hard to offer assistance to those who've come to us with questions. In upcoming editions of Today@Dal, we'll be sharing some of the knowledge they've put together while working with the Dal community - some tips and tricks to help you make better use of your calendar.
