The fall term is underway and with it comes many new students, staff and faculty. This is a reminder to everyone that HÂþ» has a smoke-free policy which has been in effect since 2003. The policy is aimed at education and improving public health and it prohibits smoking in all university buildings and on university property.
Those who wish to smoke are asked to leave university property. While smoking on public property, smokers are asked to be respectful of others, avoid littering, and abide by the municipal by-law. Maps indicating university property can be found .
Note: As per existing policy, the Agricultural Campus will remain in compliance with Nova Scotia smoke free legislation, pending review.
Moving to a smoke-free policy was a pioneering effort. HÂþ» was the first university in Canada to declare its property 'smoke-free'. The decision to adopt such a policy has been consistently supported by students, faculty and staff.
