The 11th annual event will take place Wednesday, December 1, 2021 with special guest speaker, Candace L. Thomas, Q.C., Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General for the Province of Nova Scotia and be sponsored by RBC.

RBC has and remains committed to several impactful community initiatives including women in leadership. This year’s event will mark RBC’s first year as presenting partner.

“The Women in Leadership Dinner is a fantastic example of women student-athletes getting practical work experience, skill development and networking, and aligns perfectly with our objectives to help youth through RBC Future Launch,†says Vinita Savani, Regional President, Atlantic Provinces, RBC. “We are thrilled to be the presenting sponsor of this event, and look forward to hearing from such an esteemed guest as Ms. Thomas. It’s sure to be an evening filled with inspiration and celebration.â€

This year’s event takes place in the McInnes Room of the HÂþ» Student Union Building beginning at 6pm and will feature a panel discussion with special guest and members of the women’s basketball and volleyball teams.

A native of East Preston, N.S., Thomas is a graduate of the Schulich School of Law at HÂþ» and is a past Chair of the Board of Governors of HÂþ» University. She practiced corporate law in the Halifax office of Stewart McKelvey before her appointment as Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General of Nova Scotia in April 2020.

“I am honoured to be a part of this special event celebrating female leadership and to have the opportunity to return to campus and engage with our next generation of inspiring women leaders,†says Thomas.

The evening will commence with a pre-dinner reception, followed by dinner and team presentations. A panel discussion will follow with athletes posing questions to our special guest. She will also have the opportunity to ask questions of the athletes.

“We are thrilled to be able to once again host this tremendous event,†says women’s basketball head coach Anton Berry. “It’s a wonderful evening and an incredible opportunity for us to showcase all of our student-athletes’ amazing work on the court, in the classroom and in the community.
