This past year’s Healthy Workplace Award was won by the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Office. The award was presented to the team at the Annual Carol Sing in late December.

The team of nine play a vital role in advancing HÂþ» as a safe place for faculty, staff, students and visitors.

Among many activities in 2015, the office's team launched the first Health and Safety Expo to showcase safety initiatives on campus, wore their pink capes proudly at Pink Day, and racked up more than 2 million steps during Walktober. Other events like a holiday gift exchange and a washer toss tournament show their commitment as a team to succeed together and help to create a sense of purpose and belonging.

“Our team works hard to achieve organizational goals, and we show a great deal of pride in what we do,†says Jerry Aguinaga, director, Environmental Health and Safety. “Plus, we really enjoy working together, which helps make it such a positive work environment.â€

The Healthy Workplace Collaborative selects the winner of this award each year and was impressed by the commitment to workplace health by all submissions.

Employees’ experience of HÂþ» takes place in the local area where they work,†says Janice MacInnis, manager, organizational health. “This award acknowledges the broad range of factors that contribute to how it feels to work where we do and recognizes those areas that have in place the positive initiatives and practices that generate energy and engagement."

HÂþ» first created the Healthy Workplace Award in 2011 to recognize work groups who live some or all of seven dimensions of wellness, including physical, emotional, and intellectual. Groups with health as part of their way of working show greater levels of engagement, resilience, morale, and productivity.
