This past weekend the men’s volleyball team headed to Newfoundland to face interlock opponents Sherbrooke, Montréal, and Laval. In tough against an undefeated Laval squad, the Tigers lost their opening match of the weekend 3-0, but persistence paid off as they went on to defeat Sherbrooke 3-1 and Montréal 3-0. Kenneth Rauwerda collected 55 points over the weekend and currently leads the AUS in points.
HÂþ» faces off against Laval, Sherbrooke, and Montréal again at UNB on Friday, January 20.
Sexton campus gym was the venue for the women’s volleyball team last Saturday as they competed against the undefeated Saint Mary’s Huskies. Some quick back and forth action and the close quarters made for a lively environment, but Dal lost the game 3-1. Captain Kirstie Shepherd led the Tigers with 11 points.
The Tigers hit the road after the holidays, playing their next game in Cape Breton on Friday, January 13.
Swimming

HÂþ» men's and women's swim teams finished ninth out of over 60 teams at the Canada Cup in Toronto this past weekend. ÌýLeading the way for the Tigers was Chris Reith with a silver medal performance in the 1500m freestyle and David Sharpe with silver in the 200m butterfly. Terri-Lynn Benison claimed fourth place in the 200m and sixth in the 100m butterfly events.
UPEI hosts the next AUS Invitational Swim Meet on Saturday, January 21.
Basketball

The women’s basketball team headed to Antigonish last Saturday hoping to earn their second victory over StFX. Tessa Stammberger led with 10 points and 14 rebounds, but the Tigers lost a close one 64-58. Dal currently sits fourth in the AUS standings with six points.
On Saturday, January 7 the team will head to Newfoundland to take on Memorial.
Out for revenge after a 14 point loss in their last meeting, the men’s basketball team took on StFX following the women’s game. Only trailing by two points heading into the final quarter, Dal kept on pressing, but ultimately lost 81-78. Casey Fox paced the Tigers with 18 points, despite only shooting 25 per cent on 16 attempts.
HÂþ» hosts the Rod Shoveller Memorial Tournament at Dalplex during the holidays, with the first game taking place Thursday, December 29.
Hockey

Women’s hockey came tantalizing close in both of their games this past weekend, but lost 5-3 to UdeM and 4-3 against STU. Jocelyn LeBlanc currently sits second in league scoring with 10 goals after adding two more over the weekend.
The black and gold host the University of Ontario Institute of Technology on Friday, December 30 for an exhibition game at 6pm.
First-year goalie Philip Wright stood tall for the men’s hockey team last weekend, making 39 saves in Friday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Huskies.
The Tigers next hold three games at home starting on January 3 against UPEI.
