Inaugural DPMG Awards given

The award was created in response to the 2009 Workplace Survey

Four HÂþ»­ employees were recognized for their exemplary contributions to the university with the inaugural HÂþ»­ Professional Management Group (DPMG) Award for Outstanding Achievement at the annual DPMG conference on June 9.

  • Mary Jane Adams, Director of Planning, Facilities Management
  • Laura Addicott, Director, Career Services Centre
  • Bonnie Best-Fleming, Advisor for Human Rights and Equity, Office of Human Rights, Equity and Harassment Prevention
  • Bruce Moxley, Clinical Manager and Building Services Manager, Faculty of Dentistry

The DPMG award nominations were judged for outstanding performance or achievement in an area of the university’s strategic focus and in reflection of HÂþ»­â€™s values through a particular project or strategic initiative and/or a consistent track record of significant accomplishments over the years.

In the words of her nominator, it was Mary Jane Adam’s unwavering commitment for her work and compassionate nature that made her a natural fit for this award.

Laura Addicott was recognized for her contributions to an enhanced student experience, including transforming the Career Services Centre into a client-focused, outcomes-based service. Recently, she helped launch the myCareer project.

Serving more than 35 years at HÂþ»­, Bonnie Best-Fleming was acknowledged for her natural ability to influence, educate and serve as a role model. She has increased the number of designated group employees on campus through various recruitment and retention efforts and ensured opportunities for advancement are open to all.

Bruce Moxley was cited by his nominator for his insight, management skills and dedication to the Faculty of Dentistry. He recently led the integration of the faculty’s electronic curriculum and patient care services and assisted with the development of a financial plan to support a $6 million clinic renewal fund.

The DPMG award was developed in response to the results of the HÂþ»­â€™s workplace survey (2009), which indicated that there was a gap between employees’ expectations and the university’s performance in terms of being recognized and having contributions valued. In addition, "Envision DPMG," a focus group of DPMG members conducted in 2009, identified recognition as one area to help foster a stronger DPMG leadership presence and more engaged membership.

Each year the DPMG Award will be highlighted at the annual DPMG conference. Award winners have also been invited to a special recognition luncheon in their honour hosted by President Tom Traves on June 14. Several senior leaders and the recipients' team members will also be in attendance.
