Stay in the loop

- October 23, 2009

HÂş» is replacing its existing emergency text messaging system with a new and improved service.

The new service is intended to alert students and staff of campus hazards, significant campus closure, or other unpredictable events that might impact large groups. The university has signed with a new provider and the Dal Alert system is set to launch Sunday, Nov. 1.

“The Dal Alert is but one of many ways to remain informed of messages from the university. Yet this is the most direct—to your cell phone in a text message,†says Dwight Fischer, Assistant Vice President, ITS.

To subscribe to Dal Alert, students and staff must register at my.dal.ca. Even if you previously registered for text messaging, you must re-register for Dal Alert as phone numbers are not transferable from the old system to the new one.

The registration process is simple: beginning November 1, visit my.dal, provide your banner number and cell phone number.

That’s it – you’re registered. It’s a small investment of time now could make a big difference on some cold, wintry morning when Dal Alert brings you that most welcome of news: “Snow day. University closed.â€
