Soaring higher

- April 29, 2009

According to a story in The Globe and Mail, Canada's greenhouse gas emissions soared to a new high in 2007. Emissions rose to 747 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, up by four per cent from 718 million tonnes the year before.

At 26 per cent above 1990 levels, the emissions are in violation of Kyoto Protocol pledge and far worse than in United States.

The federal government blames high levels, in part, on Canada's cold winters. What do you think are the reasons for ever-soaring emissions and what has to be done?
