HÂþ» researcher Geoffrey Maksym demonstrates the oscillation spirometer, a new tool to help asthma patients. "It's very difficult for children to perform traditional spirometry tests, which require them to blow as much air out of their lungs as they can in one second. Our device is easier for people to use, because it measures airway function while they are breathing normally."

Dr. Maksym, associate professor in HÂþ»'s School of Biomedical Engineering, is now working to develop the device as a smaller unit for use in hospitals and clinics.
