SO‑MaD student conference, Mar 30

Sustainable Ocean Management and Development Conference (SO-MaD)
March 30-31, 2012, HÂþ»­ University

Students of the  at HÂþ»­ University, and WWF Canada, invite you to attend the SO-MaD student conference. A specific focus of the conference will be on the role universities, environmental NGOs and the Government of Canada should have in supporting the delivery of political commitments underpinning the RIO+20 vision for healthy oceans and related economies, in addition to addressing new and emerging challenges. The conference will take place over two days:

Friday, March 30, 5:30pm–9:00pm – Scotiabank Auditorium, Marion McCain Arts and Social Science Building, 6135 University Ave, Halifax

Starting with a poster session and reception, followed by the announcements of the 2012-2013 scholarship recipients made possible by the Sobey Fund for Oceans. Ms. Maria Teresa Mesquita Pessoa (Minister Plenipotentiary of Brazil to the United Nations), will provide the opening keynote address followed by a media panel of Ziya Tong (Daily Planet), Todd Battis (CTV National News) and Rob North (CBC Radio).

Saturday, March 31,  9:00am – 5:00pm – Room 224, Student Union Building, 6136 University Avenue, Halifax

The conference continues with a series of student presentations addressing ocean management through social-economics, science and governance themes. Participants will develop a student statement relevant to the RIO+20 conference goals and objectives, to be disseminated in Brazil in June 2012.
