Dr. Chijioke Emenike was awarded a Fellowship from Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program. This is a prestigious award that will foster relations between HÂþ» and Tanzanian Institutions.Â
The program provides funding for African-born academics in the United States and Canada to collaborate with colleagues at accredited higher education institutions in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda on capacity-building education projects. As a result, Emenike spent three months in the Open University of Tanzania from May 1 until the end of July 2023.
Emenike mentored Faculty members on curriculum development. The fwllowship visit also attracted an intern to HÂþ» through the Mitac Globalink program. Sourour Bouassida is an honors student from the University of Carthage, Tunisia who was on a summer internship at the Open University of Tanzania when she joined Dr. Emenike’s research project on the ecotoxicological impact of wastewater from municipal waste dump in the Temeke region of Dar es Salam, Tanzania.Â
With the Mitacs Globalink award, Sourour will join Emenike's Remediation and Residue Recovery lab in May 2024 for a 3-month research internship.
