The moment Parker Sanford stepped on the Agricultural Campus for the first time he immediately felt comfortable.

A native of Toronto, any worry he had about coming to the AC as a “city-boy” disappeared.

“The transition from life in a large city to life at the AC in Truro was a bit of a culture shock only because of how friendly and welcoming everyone was.  The warmth of the AC community was a very nice change from the city,” he said.

Parker has always had a love for animals.  He frequented a small educational farm in the city as a child as he loved to see the animals.  Parker also has experience working with animals at a vet clinic, the Toronto Humane Society and even a forest and wildlife reserve where he had the chance to work with wolves!

Parker did a lot of research to determine which education path to follow, knowing he wanted to do something with animals and that a hands-on experience was going to be the best way to learn.

“I had met a H representative at a college/university fair, and they told me about the animal science program at the AC.  Everything about the AC sounded like what I was looking for in an education, so I was very excited when I was accepted! “

Entering his fourth year of study Parker doesn’t have any set plans for what comes next.

“My dad always told me growing up to find a job that I enjoy, the usual ‘if you enjoy what you do, you'll never work a day in your life’ speech, and that is the only set goal I have for a career,” he explained.

Parker would like to be working with animals preferably in the field of conservation and protection of wildlife.

As for his favourite part about the AC?  “I can't think of just one thing.  Everything about the AC is my favourite - the people, the animals, the campus and the experiences. The AC is a place where anyone can fit in, feel welcome and have a great time!”
