Northern Contaminants Program

The Northern Contaminants Program (NCP) is now accepting funding proposals.ÌýThe NCP Call for ProposalsÌý2023-2024 willÌýbe posted on the in the coming days, and is also [PDF 1.6 MB].

The current focus of the NCP is on the high priority issues in communities where people are exposed to contaminants at levels of concern to health authorities, and on better understanding the issue of plastic pollution in the North and Arctic. A total of $2,665,000 is available in 2023-2024 (and $3,000,000 available in each of the subsequent two years) for projects across four NCP Subprograms (Human Health; Environmental Monitoring and Research; Community-Based Monitoring and Research; and Communications, Capacity, and Outreach). This amount includes approximately $875,000 annually to support the coordinated generation, collection and management of scientific and environmental data and Indigenous knowledge pertaining to plastic and microplastic pollution in the environment and wildlife.

Proposal Submission

Complete proposal packages are to be submitted by email (with MS-Word and Excel file attachments, maximum size: 10 MB) to the NCP Secretariat at plcn-ncp@rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca. Please note that the attached Ìý[Excel] and [Word] must be used for proposal submissions. A [Word] is also available.

To obtain confirmation of receipt, please use the following text as the Subject line: NCP Proposal 2023-2024 - [insert name of Project Leader]. Please note, compressed files cannot be submitted.

Seminars

To learn more about the NCP and how to develop and submit a proposal, you are encouraged to join the optional seminars in Microsoft Teams. These sessions will be informative and interactive, and are intended for participants who may be new to the NCP as well as for those who are already more familiar with the program.
