Future Undergraduate Students


Every year, HÂþ»­ awards millions in scholarships and bursaries to support incoming students. More than 2,000 entrance awards are available through our General Entrance Award application. Entrance awards are offered to students who are entering HÂþ»­ in the Fall term. Entrance Awards/Scholarships

The 2025/2026 HÂþ»­ General Entrance Awards/Scholarships program is now open. The application is due by February 15th, 2025 (11:59 p.m. AST).

If you’re applying to HÂþ»­ directly from high school (or have not completed any other transferable post-secondary study), please complete the General Entrance Award application after you have submitted your application in theÌýto be considered for the majority of entrance awards and bursaries available. These are awarded based on academic achievement, leadership, extracurricular involvement, community service, financial need and cultural identity. Please note, a small number of awards do require a, that can be completed after you apply.


Are you eligible?

Generally, students need an 80% admission averageÌýorÌý26 predicted/anticipated IB Diploma points to be considered. Averages are calculated using the five courses that are required for the program that the student has applied for. Both domestic and international students are eligible to apply. For the First Nations and Indigenous Black Student (FNIB) Scholarships, the admissions average is not taken into consideration.Ìý

How to apply

To be considered for the General Entrance Award program, students must complete the application and submit any additional documents before the deadline.

I have been accepted to a HÂþ»­ program

You must complete the following before the deadline to be considered for entrance awards:

  • Complete the General Entrance Award
  • Submit your official first semester transcript or, for NS and ON applicants, your provincial student ID number.

I have not yet been accepted to a HÂþ»­ program

You must complete the following before the deadline to be considered for entrance awards:

  • Apply to an undergraduate program at HÂþ»­
  • Complete the General Entrance Award
  • Pay the $70 CAD admissions application fee.
  • Submit your official first semester transcript or, for NS and ON applicants, your provincial student ID number.


Additional awards information

HÂþ»­ University Entrance Awards and Donor-Funded Entrance Awards

Applicants will be considered for hundreds of  entrance awards through the General Entrance Award program. This includes university entrance scholarships and bursaries as well as named awards funded by donors.

  • Scholarships are awards given to students primarily on the basis of academic merit or other achievement.
  • Bursaries are awards given to students who demonstrate financial need.
  • There are also hybrid awards given to students based on academic achievement as well as leadership, community involvement, and/or financial need.
  • Some awards are for the first year of study only. Others may be renewable for up to four years provided recipients meet a set academic standard and take the required number of classes.
  • Entrance awards range in value from $550 to $80,000 over four years.

Black Students

HÂþ»­ has a number of awards for Black students/students of African Descent and African Nova Scotian students. Students should submit a General Entrance Award Application to be considered for all relevant entrance awards, including the specific awards listed below. Follow instructions above to apply.

Faculty of Management Promise Scholarship for Black and Indigenous Students
Value:
 In addition to financial support, Faculty of Management advisors will provide academic and career support, including assistance in finding work terms and career mentors to support long-term career aspirations.
Open to: Black and Indigenous students with priority given to African Nova Scotian and Mi’kmaq students admitted to the Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Management programs.

First Nations and Indigenous Black Student Scholarships
Value: 
$32,000 ($8,000 per year renewable for 4 years)
Open to: Indigenous Black and First Nations students from Atlantic Canada who demonstrate good academic standing and financial need.

Forsyth Family NS Scholarship
Value:
Up to $80,000 (Up to $20,000 per year renewable for 4 years)
Open to: Black African Nova Scotian students who also demonstrate financial need and extra-curricular involvement.

Jeff D. and Marth Edwards Scholarship 
Value: 
$12,000 ($4,500 per year renewable for 4 years)
Open to: Preference to Canadian students of Black African descent, and second preference to Black Bermudian Students at HÂþ»­. Preference is also given to students entering a Bachelor of Science.

The Ivan Joseph Promise Scholarship
Value:
$32,000 ($8,000 per year renewable for 4 years)
Open to:  A domestic undergraduate student from an under-represented/under-served group entering an undergraduate degree program.

The Sankofa Scholarships
Value:
Domestic Students – $32,000 ($8,000 per year renewable for 4 years)
International Students – $48,000 ($12,000 per year renewable for 4 years)
Open to: Two award for domestic students. One award for a student of Black/African Descent of Caribbean heritage, and one for a Black/African Nova Scotian student entering an undergraduate degree program.

One Award for an international student of Black/African Descent from the Caribbean (preference to those from the former British West Indies) entering an undergraduate degree program. 

WeAreAllCS African Nova Scotian and African Descent Student Entrance Scholarship
Value: $10,000 ($5,000 per year for 2 years)
Open to: Students of African descent with priority given to African Nova Scotian students admitted to the Bachelor of Computer Science or Bachelor of Applied of Computer Sciences.

Richard and Melda Murray Jamaican Engineering Scholarship

$88,000 - $22,000 renewable for 4 years
Open to: Students from Jamaica entering the Bachelor of Engineering program, who demonstrate good academic standing and financial need.

The Sankofa Scholarships

Schulich Leader Scholarships
Value: 
$120,000 (Engineering) or $100,000 (Science and Math)
Open to: Students entering HÂþ»­ University directly from a Canadian high school. Awarded based on academic merit, leadership, and financial need. See their website for a complete list of eligible programs.
Details: A nomination from your high school is required. Contact your guidance counsellor for more details.
Deadline: For nomination: January 20, 2024; For application: February 20, 2024.

Post-Care Tuition Waiver
Value: Tuition
Open to: Students who have lived in care for a minimum of one year. Visit the dal.ca/post-care for additional eligiblity information.

Fountain Performing Arts Undergraduate Scholarships
Value: 
$24,000 ($6,000 per year)
Open to: Students entering HÂþ»­ University directly from high school into the Music program or who intend to major in Theatre.
Details: Supporting documents are required based on area of study. Visit the Fountain School of Performing Arts website for more details.

Value: $16,000
Open to: High school applicants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents and entering an undergraduate program (excluding Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Technology, and others intending to pursue veterinary studies).
Details: Scholarships will be given to students who demonstrate financial need, initiative to fund their own education, and who possess strong leadership skills.

Bachelor of Computer Science and Bachelor of Applied Computer Science Entrance Scholarships
Value: 
up to $5,000 each
Open to: Applicants entering the Bachelor of Computer Science or the Bachelor of Applied Computer Science program directly from high school.

Leacross Women in Technology Entrance Scholarship
Value: 
$10,000 (over 2 years)
Open to: Canadian and International applicants entering the Bachelor of Computer Science or the Bachelor of Applied Computer Science program. Preference will be given to applicants who identify as female.

Bissett Scholarship
Value: $24,000 ($6,000 per year)
Open to: Applicants from Cole Harbour High School, N.S. entering eligible programs in the Faculty of Architecture & Planning, Arts & Social Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Health Professions, Management, or Science.
